3 bullets, 1 dead in a popular tourist spot | For registration



A major St. Thomas road crossing one of the island’s busiest tourist sites was the scene of a deadly shooting Friday night.

Three men were shot, including one fatally, at approximately 10:32 pm on the roadway between Havensight Mall and the old Al Cohen Mall in St. Thomas.

Responders and emergency medical technicians found a man, identified by family members as Shakeem Meade, 24, dead on the roadway from multiple gunshot wounds, according to Officer Toby Derima. police information VI.

The 911 emergency call center was then notified of two men who entered Schneider Hospital with gunshot wounds, Derima said. The gunshot victims are believed to have sustained injuries as a result of the shooting that killed Meade.

While the filming area is not as crowded at night as it is during the day, or when cruise ships are docked near the West Indian Co., it is still busy with restaurants and bars open until late.

Meade’s death is the 33rd homicide of the year in the territory, the 8th in St. Thomas. So far there have been 24 homicides this year in Sainte-Croix and one in Saint-Jean.
