A 108ft tall statue of Adi Shankaracharya will be installed in Omkareshvara


Khandwa: Omkareshvara, the city of religion and spirituality, will go down in history. In fact, we say this because a 108ft tall statue of Adi Shankaracharya made out of ‘Ashtadhatu’ is soon to be installed in Omkareshvara. There are reports that the platform on which the statue will be placed will be 54 feet tall. The company that has cooperated in the construction of buildings like Sardar Patel’s Statue of Unity and Burj Khalifa in Dubai is to be given the task of making a statue of Shankaracharya.

In fact, the Board of Shankaracharya Cultural Unity Trust met in Bhopal last Saturday in the presence of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Shankaracharya Statue, Museum and International Advaita Vedanta Institute were discussed at the meeting. A presentation was made on the whole project. This was briefed by Usha Thakur, Minister in charge of Tourism and Khandwa in Khandwa last Sunday. In the meantime, he said, “Omkareshwar is going to write a new chapter in the list of tourist spots.” Speaking on the occasion, Minister Usha Thakur said, “On the model of Akshar Dham in Delhi, the knowledge land of Shankaracharya, Omkareshvara, will be developed.” as the global hub of Advaita Vedanta. It was named “STATUE DE L’UNIT”, the statue of unity. ‘

He further said, “A consultant architect has been appointed to prepare detailed designs and reports for the works, including the installation of the statue. Meanwhile, Minister Usha Thakur also said, “The International Advaita Vedanta Institute will be an international center for research and coordination. Seven centers (schools) will be created under the aegis of the Institute. They will also get a glimpse of different monasteries and backs in different forms.”
