The Delaware Tourist Board will bathe several state tourist attractions in blue light at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 4, in tribute to healthcare workers, first responders and essential workers – but they don’t want you to come and gather to see it. Instead, Delawarens are encouraged to experience the event statewide using the hashtag #Thanks for on social networks.
Four attractions will be illuminated: the Grand Opera and the Hilton Wilmington-Christiana in New Castle County, the monster statue at Dover International Circuit in Kent County and the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand in Sussex County.
Local businesses are also encouraged to post using #ThanksDE to share what they are doing in the community and to thank essential workers. So far, two companies will be accepting donations to help feed frontline workers during the event: High 5 Hospitality (Limestone and Bourbon barbecue, Stone ball, egg watching and Wild buffalo wings) and La Baguette Bakery & Catering. Hospitality La Vida (Crooked Hammock Brewery, Fork and Bottle and Taco Reho) also strives to provide support and resources to food banks, local shelters, nonprofits and community groups.
People are also encouraged to post photos of themselves with the hashtag #ThanksDE, at home or on past trips to the beach, the racetrack, and other Delaware destinations.
