A massive crowd was seen at a tourist spot in Goa, regardless of the COVID-19 outbreak, in a clip which was shared widely on Twitter. The state of Goa received a significant number of tourists from the end of December as travelers arrived in the coastal state for the Christmas and New Year festival season.
The massive influx of tourists, officials said, led to the COVID-19 positivity rate, which topped 10% on Sunday.
“It’s a royal welcome for the Covid wave. Mainly tourists,” wrote the Twitter user, who called himself @Herman_Gomes.

About 388 people have tasted positive in Goa in the past 24 hours, according to figures released by the Department of Health.
Adding up the new cases brought the total in Goa to 1,81,570, while one death brought the total to 3,523. It said.
Many domestic tourists have swarmed Goa’s beaches, pubs and nightclubs to see the New Year, even as the government has introduced strict restrictions to control the spread of the latest Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
State authorities have instructed hotels, restaurants and casinos to only accept guests with a valid vaccination certificate or proof of a negative test result.
