Nagamma Cheruvu gets a 22ft tall Buddha statue

The Buddha statue is installed in the middle of Nagamma Cheruvu in the city of Sirpur (T) on Wednesday. Deputy Konappa is also seen.

Kumram Bheem Asifabad: A 22ft tall statue of Gauthama Buddha was ceremonially installed in the presence of dozens of spiritual masters at the center of Nagamma Cheruvu, an irrigation reservoir in the town of Sirpur (T) on Wednesday.

The black stone carved statue at Allagadda of Kurnool was sponsored by Sirpur (T) MLA Koneru Konappa. MLC Dande Vittal and Konappa were the main guests of the event. It is besides the young statue of Buddha which was installed in the district. A large crane was used to install the statue.

Speaking on the occasion, Konappa said he would work to convert the tank into a tourist spot in the future. He recalled that he had fulfilled a promise made in the past by sponsoring the statue. He said steps were being taken to develop the town of Sirpur (T) and improve basic amenities. He added that Buddha was a symbol of peace. The MP said the infrastructure of roads and bridges, hospitals and schools have been improved over the past 10 years. He recalled that special supervision was given to candidates for the posts of teacher and police officer. He informed that a feeding center for the daily poor was operated in Kaghaznagar to thank the public for electing him thrice as the Assembly constituency legislator of Sirpur (T).

Vittal praised Konappa for erecting the statue in the heart of the city of Sirpur (T). He said the MP organizes a multitude of social service activities, in addition to developing the constituency on many fronts. He felt that Konappa had set an example for his counterparts by serving voters. He added that many lawmakers were inspired by Konappa. A large number of followers of Buddhism made their way to the reservoir to witness the ceremony. Hundreds of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) activists from Sirpur (T), Dahegaon, Bejjur, Koutala, Kaghaznagar and Chintalamanepalli mandals attended the event. Earlier, a procession was taken from Kaghaznagar to the city of Sirpur (T), carrying the statue.

Zilla Parishad Vice Chairman Koneru Krishna Rao, Agricultural Market Committee Chairman Kasam Srinivas, Koneru Charitable Trust Chairman Koneru Vamshi, Sirpur (T)TRS Chief Keazer Hussain DSP A Karunakar, Inspectors Nagaraju and Budde Swamy, Deputy Inspector M Ravi Kumar were present.
