New tourist site to be developed in Indus River

LAHORE: The government of Punjab has decided to develop Lake Piyala on the Indus River, near the Ghazi Ghat region, located on the outskirts of the town of Dera Ghazi Khan (DG Khan).

This was revealed by the deputy director of the Punjab tourism development company DG Khan Shiekh Ejaz during a conversation with the media.

The bowl-shaped lake, commonly referred to as Lake Piyala, is said to be made up of more than 200 channels with a depth of 80 feet below the surface, Ejaz informed.

He said that the Chief Minister of Punjab Ousman Bouzdar had delegated a task force, made up of tourism experts, archaeologists and TDCP officials, to conduct a survey and prepare a feasibility report for the development of the lake for local tourists.

The feasibility report will be submitted to the Chief Minister of Punjab Usman Buzdar while Deputy Commissioner Naveel Ahmed will oversee development work at the site.

While highlighting the unique features, he said the lake will have a boating area, a walking track and a lookout. “The government will also introduce other facilities at Lake Piyala,” he added.

The lake, known as Piyala, has unique characteristics as its water turns blue in winter and green in summer. The additional facilities at Lake Piyala would also help attract tourists from across the region, he added.
