One more tourist spot in Warangal


Warangal: Much to the delight of city dwellers, another urban lung space is being developed by the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC). It took over development work worth Rs 14.41 crore from Waddepally tank bund under GWMC limits. Beautification works also aim to attract tourists to the site.

Speaking to Telangana Today, an official from the civic body said that they have developed the bund with a total of Rs 10.50 crore (excluding GST) under the Smart City Mission (SCM) project. As part of these beautification works, a four-meter-wide path, a 3.5-meter-wide cycling and skating path, a 12-meter-wide plaza to install coffee kiosks and other shops commercial spaces, an open gym, viewpoints, greenery, a food kiosk, seating arrangements, and other amenities.

“We have already installed the equipment for the outdoor gymnasium. The other development work is also progressing at a steady pace. We will also build three grand entrance arches as part of this development project,” the official added.

The authorities are also developing the area for sports activities. “Visitors can play badminton, volleyball and even cricket on the sea wall,” the officer said, adding that they would install solar-powered lights on the sea wall in addition to installing a huge LED screen.

It can be added here that the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA) developed the bund at a cost of Rs 3 crore about nine years ago and handed over the beautification project to Warangal Municipal Corporation in 2013. The KUDA has already developed a walking track and benches on the lawns.

Dr Suresh Devath, founding chairman of the Society for Public Welfare and Initiative (SPWI), appreciated the government’s efforts to undertake the beautification works and hoped it would become another major tourist attraction in the historic town of Warangal which has several tourist spots. such as the Kakatiya-era Thousand Pillars Temple, Fort Warangal and the Bhadrakali Reservoir Embankment being developed under the HRIDAY program.

“I think the introduction of the navigation service in the reservoir will attract more visitors,” he added.

Meanwhile, MP Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar who regularly reviews the development works said that the beautification works of the Waddepally reservoir embankment will be completed at the earliest for the benefit of the townspeople as well as people visiting the town. “We are focused on developing more urban lung spaces in Warangal West constituency,” he added.
