Police investigate alleged rape of Irishman at Spanish tourist spot

Spanish police are investigating the alleged rape of an Irish tourist.

The 28-year-old told detectives he was sexually assaulted on the last night of his holiday in Valencia on the east coast.

The incident reportedly happened on an old riverbed after he agreed to take a walk with two men he met in the iconic neighborhood of El Carmen.

Police are looking for two men “of Arab origin with a French accent” who spoke only a few words of English.
A local report said the holidaymaker told officers his clothes were ripped off before he was forced to have sex while on the walk.

The same report states that a doctor who examined him at La Fe Hospital in Valencia discovered injuries consistent with rape during an examination.

Valencia National Police could not be reached this morning/yesterday morning (SUN) for comment on the incident on June 18 in the early morning, which has only just been made public.

No arrests have reportedly been made yet.

El Carmen is in the center of the old town of Valencia called Ciutat Vella. It’s described on travel websites as a lively place during the day and a great place at night to go out for dinner, tapas or a drink at one of the many local music bars and nightclubs.
