PRAYAGRAJ: The district administration decided to develop the city of Prayagraj as a tourist attraction on the Ayodhya model, as the state government wanted.
The task of undertaking tourism development in Prayagraj has been entrusted to the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA), which will coordinate with the tourism department. A consultant will also be hired to plan and execute this mega mission.
To move forward with the plan, a roadmap was prepared by the district administration and the same was presented at a recently held meeting chaired by Divisional Commissioner Sanjay Goyal. It was decided to use a consultancy agency as the work will be carried out simultaneously under the authority of Prayagraj Mela and the Smart City Scheme.
A detailed plan is in preparation for the development of the district according to which the tourist places will be indicated at the entry points of the city. Information boards will be set up at various locations with photos of major temples and other tourist attractions. Signs indicating distances and road maps will also be installed.
In addition, the official website of the tourism service will also be updated. The website will contain aarti videos and photos of the deity. Along with this, a brief description of the main tourist spots and special events that will take place will also be uploaded.
“Apart from infrastructure projects, we are also going to undertake a study for permanent constructions to be carried out in places of tourist attraction. For this, an expert consulting firm will be engaged, ”said the divisional commissioner. The idea is to jointly promote tourism and the city’s cultural heritage, he added.
Some major development works under this ambitious project include the construction of a seminar room on Triveni Pushp (Arail ghat) where cultural events could take place, a sound and light show that will be held in the neighborhood throughout of the year, and the construction of a Kumbh Kalash museum.
Some preliminary suggestions were also made for the development of tourist friendly infrastructure. The suggestions considered by the administration include the proposal for water sports, the development of the area around Sangam, a tourist circuit (which can also connect with other towns), the marking of places and the installation of a green field. Developing townships and ensuring better connectivity with the airport are also on the program.
