Ranjit Sagar Lake in Pathankot will be developed as a major tourist spot

The Punjab government held an investors’ summit in New Delhi on Friday to invite the private sector to play a role in developing tourism and other sectors in the state.

Punjab Chief Secretary Anirudh Tewari while presiding over the function said Ranjit Sagar Lake in Pathankot will be developed as a top tourism destination in public-private partnership (PPP) mode for which the government of the State has already achieved stage 1 environmental land clearing and deforestation.

Surrounded by lush vegetation and rolling hills, the 75-acre lakeside site is located on Dalhousie Road and is close to the popular tourist destinations of Dharamshala, Palampur, Chamba and Vaishno Devi in Katra.

Tewari said that as Punjab has a rich and diverse natural landscape, it is envisaged to unlock this potential for citizens and help them appreciate and conserve natural resources. “This will not only preserve and conserve the natural heritage but also trigger other ancillary developments and job creation for the local community,” he said.

Other projects likely to be developed as tourist destinations were also presented. These include Darbar Hall and Gol Kothi in Kapurthala, Sangrur Kothi in Sangrur, Amritsar and Mohali Convention Centers and Shahpur Kandi Fort in Pathankot. Prominent tourism companies including ITC Hospitality, Taj, Mahindra Holidays, Marriot, Hyaat, Park, CGH Earth attended the summit, according to a government statement.
