Mangamaripeta Beach or Thotlakonda Beach is less crowded than other popular beaches in Vizag. But it is a beach not to be missed. For every visit to Thotlakonda Hill, it is also worth going to this beach and discovering its pristine expanses. However, this beach is known for the natural arch located on its shores.
With an expanse of soft sand, interspersed with intriguing rock formations, Mangamaripeta Beach is ideal for those who want to relax in the midst of nature, getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city of Visakhapatnam. It is only 15 km from the MVP Colony in the city, but there is no urban disturbance here. This beach is just as peaceful as the Buddhist sites on top of Thotlakonda hill.
How to get there?
Getting to Mangamaripeta beach is easier than you might think. It is located on Bheemili Road, commonly known as Beach Road. This 4-lane road turns out to be a smooth and calm ride, especially in the morning. People can also get there by taking the 900K bus bound for Bheemili from the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC). If you’re not on the cutting edge of comfort, shared autorickshaws also connect the MVP Colony here and are a budget travel option.
The best time to go?
Just like the other beaches in Vizag, Mangamaripeta Beach is also a sunrise beach (a beach where the sun rises over the sea). Therefore, the best time to visit this beach is early in the morning when the traffic is less and people can admire a fascinating sunrise over the sea. Besides, it is a spectacular sight to watch the sunrise through the natural arch to the beach.
It is not recommended to visit this beach in the dark as it is usually deserted and sparsely marked. In addition, the beach is very rocky and it is important for people to watch their steps while walking on it.
What to do at the beach?
One of the peaceful beaches near Vizag, people can come here to meditate, jog on the sand or just sit back and enjoy the view. You can also come here for a romantic walk with your partner. Every time you come here, listen to the waves crash against the rocks, smell the salty sea air, and let the water wash your feet.
For nature photographers, the natural beach arch is one of the most popular photography spots. Even many wedding photo ops take place at this location. But when taking photos, do not step on the arch, the rock is extremely slippery there and it is easy to slip from there and fall into the water.
Responsible tourism at Mangamaripeta Beach
As this place gains popularity and more and more tourists come here, it is important that everyone is responsible tourists. Already, without much tourism, this beach is littered from time to time. When the crowds start flocking here, cleaning the beach would be one of the keys to maintaining its beauty.
In addition, this beach is not an equipped beach like Rushikonda or RK Beach. There are hardly any facilities. The best option is the nearby Baywatch Resort of Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) for washing facilities, restaurants etc. So, ideally, visitors should bring their own food and a garbage bag, so that no trash is left on the beach.
