Windsor is undoubtedly Berkshire’s most famous town, attracting tourists from all over the world.
It is estimated that around 7.8 million tourist day trips were made in the borough in 2019.
And with all the millions of visitors to Windsor, it’s inevitable that not everyone will enjoy the day, for whatever reason.

But their loss is our gain because, over the years, people’s unsavory or surprising trips have created a host of hilarious reviews.
So we decided to check TripAdvisor for the weirdest and funniest tourist stories of Windsor’s top attractions.
Windsor Great Park – ‘Useless’
Although many TripAdvisor users found the park beautiful, not everyone was a fan of the long walk.
This may be understandable to some since anyone who has done the walk will know how strenuous it is (if you’re not in good shape like me).
Armanleg of Maidenhead wrote in 2012: “It’s a very long and boring walk, with Windsor Castle disappearing into the distance, only to find (on the way back) Windsor Castle expanding. Must be one of the most pointless walks in the countryside.”
Another Kansas City visitor who goes by the name “LeisaOBX1” described it in 2012 as an “uncontrolled dog park.”
They added that “we saw 2 dog fights and a big dog chasing a child while the owners did absolutely nothing. The Roman ruins were also urinating. A real shame.”
Meanwhile, Ross B from Leicester was surprised by his visit, writing in 2016: “Just what I really expected, lovely park, long walk and great views of the castle! What I didn’t I didn’t expect, it was the constant stream of jets arriving at Heathrow!”
Windsor Castle – some prefer the pub
Although Windsor Castle is steeped in centuries of history, it hasn’t lived up to everyone’s expectations.
Christine from San Jose, California called the historic building “all good” in 2019 and wrote: “I stayed up and watched Harry and Meghan get married here live so I was probably very excited about it.”
“However, the chapel was nothing like what it was on TV (and not because everything wasn’t ‘married’). Everything just seemed smaller but I guess that’s TV for you. “
Shaz U called the castle “Boooooring” – writing in 2017: “Just lots of rooms with lots of great paintings.”
“Every play was basically the same. The only two parts of the day that were worth it were harassing the guard (not me, the boyfriend) and having a good time in the ‘spoons down the street.’
Other tourists were fans of the castle – but maybe not things you would expect. Adam T visited in 2012 and said “the gun room was my favorite”.
“As a shooter from Texas, the rooms with all the military collectibles were awesome. A whole room full of wall mounted guns from previous wars and some from gifts. Awesome!!”
LEGOLAND – ‘The Tenth Circle of Hell’
LEGOLAND is popular with families around the world, but it has gone downhill over the years for some tourists.
Pimlico’s Barry wrote in 2018 that the children’s theme park is “now a Feral business”.
He wrote that “the experience is akin to repeated punches in the face. It seems the business model now is to ‘give away’ tickets, trap as many people in the park, and then leave the Hunger Games begin”.
Yelverton’s Robert G called the park “Hell on Earth” in 2015, similarly adding that “we would have had more fun if we had stayed home and repeatedly punched each other in the face”.
CharlesHoward69 of Hawkesbury Upton wrote in 2017: “What was Dante thinking when he didn’t include Legoland in the 9 Circles of Hell? Maybe he’s never been there. Good for him I say.
“I can’t imagine a more harrowing place to spend two (yes, dear reader, TWO) days. On an eight hour tour, you can easily spend four hours waiting in line.”
“We tolerate it because it’s not as bad as Disney World. Heaven help those poor souls who were taken to this dark place.”
